CCAAA Thanks Local Community Champions for Participating in
March for Meals - Community Champions Week
The Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging, Inc. (CCAAA), along with eight local officials, participated in Community Champions week, formerly known as Mayors for Meals. This is part of the national March For Meals campaign, organized by the Meals On Wheels Association of America and designed to raise awareness for senior hunger.
This year, eight local officials took time out of their busy schedules to hand deliver meals and visit consumers throughout Clearfield County. Participating officials include Clearfield County Chief Deputy Sheriff Michael Churner, Commissioner Mark McCracken, Commissioner John Sobel, Commissioner Antonio Scotto, Mayor Gary Gilbert of DuBois, Mayor Jim Schell of Clearfield, and Pennsylvania State Representatives Matt Gabler and Tommy Sankey. They joined thousands of other government officials throughout the nation who took part in this national program. This year’s event is the 14th annual nationwide celebration of local Meals on Wheels programs.
“This is the eighth year we have participated in this program to raise awareness for senior hunger. Just in Clearfield County alone, our Meals on Wheels & More program serves over 263,000 meals to more than 1,100 consumers per year. In addition, over 25,000 meals per year are served at our senior centers. We want to urge people of Clearfield County to support the Meals on Wheels & More Program through our local fundraisers. The public’s support is essential to meeting the needs of these older consumers,” said Rikki Ross, Director of Planning & Marketing for CCAAA.
The Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging would like to thank all the officials for donating their time and making this Community Champions week possible. The consumers always enjoy the opportunity to meet and visit with their local officials.”
